We went here on New Year's Eve and were surprised to see so many children. The waiting area was a zoo but once we were able to get back to our habatchi grill area- it was amazing. It was my first habatchi experience, and luckily our chef was amazing. He was entertaining and funny. Watching everyone try to catch shrimp in their mouth was hilarious! For something like this to be fun, you need an engaging chef, and he was wonderful. The food was fabulous. So incredibly fresh and delicious. The salad, may sound a bit odd at first, but it's fabulous!

TASTY!!! If you love sushi go here! They have an amazing selection. Also both the Asian and Hibatchi grill are amazing. You get a great show when you do the hibatchi, and of course you it is fresh and delicious food. The Asian side is just as good. You can order the same thing that you would on hibatchi but not have to wait as long or sit with people that you don't know. The service is good, even though you may not get the same waiter or waitress that you had to start with is kind of weird. I really only have to say the reason that this gets 4 out of 5 is because hibatchi can take awhile to get into and you may have to sit with other people, not always bad, but there is always that one family if you know what I mean, that seems to get stuck with you on a bad day. All in all great food, atmosphere, and place.

I normally love the show at the teppanyaki grill. But my experience at Stix is less than favorable. Everything was overcooked. Stop playing with my food on the grill and serve it to me already. =P. Eaten here at least a few times, always my friends' choice. The service staff and food quality is hit or miss. I rather go somewhere that's more consistent.

Stix is out in the sticks, but for a Japanese place in the Midwest, it's a great place to dine! Every time my husband and I went, we had great experiences. Service was always good, and the wait times never got too crazy. Their sushi rolls are surprisingly fresh (being that there are no oceans anywhere near KS) and creative as they make their own fun concoctions of fish and veggies. Their Hibachi chefs are always fun and in never in a bad mood! Somehow we managed to get the same chef twice and he was just as fun as the first time he cooked for us. They are very accommodating to your flavor profile and will mix drinks just the way you like them! If they don't know of your specialty drink, they will write down the ingredients and make it for you, no questions asked. I miss this place!

My first and last visit was yesterday!!!!!!!! I was having a post Christmas shopping spree with a few friends and we wanted to grab a bite to eat but wanted something better than a fast food burger joint. (We would have gotten better service at the order your own "Five Guys" across the way!) AnyWHO! Since we weren't sure if we wanted the grill or the sushi we sat in the restaurant and could order both. That's when things went wrong! As soon as we sat down. We ordered sushi rolls to share as our appetizers. Stated this rather plainly to the waitress. She put the order in and brought us our hot tea. We ordered our entrees. We decided to get the hot and sour soup to "have the whole Asian experience" mistake number TWO! It seems that when you order the "shrimp and chicken hot and sour soup for two" what it really means is WITH two. I am not making this up, when I mentioned that the soup was a little disappointing because in the entire rather large bowl of BROTH that easily filled three "cups" of soup with some left over, there were exactly TWO SHRIMP!! How do I know this, because I served it myself. I filled my friends bowls first making sure they had shrimp AND chicken. I was dismayed because I easily found the TWO shrimp, ( one for each, this will be important later), but there was NO chicken. Not to worry I am not that crazy about boringly boiled shrimp. AnyWHO, I am also not crazy about paying 8.50 for a bowl of broth!!!!!! We had just gotten over the shock when our entrees arrived. We had a table full of sushi plates, condiment bowls soup bowls, salad bowls and our entrees came out seconds after our appetizers. When I mentioned to the waitress that we weren't even finished with our meal she said "oh well, I'll just move this!" She proceeded to shove everything around on the table so that some things were literally HANGING OFF THE EDGE OT THE TABLE!!" I had a few more issues with the quality of the food, but will only say that DON'T EVER GET THE SUSHI!! It had a very fishy smell which means the fish isn't fresh. I think one of my friends later got so sick from it that we had to make an emergency stop at the Nebraska Furniture Mart on exiting the mall! (NFM has vey clean restroom if you every do decide to ignore this and eat at STIX!) As I stated earlier, two pieces of shrimp and never did find the chicken, the hot and sour soup, when I did say something the waitress talked to the manager. She replied and I quote, "That is standard, after all it is soup for TWO." You can't make this stuff up! We were never visited by the manager. We weren't offered any apologies for the terrible service. NOTHING was done to RETAIN me as a customer. I guess customer service is a thing of the past because in a HIGH traffic area like the LEGENDS there will always be the next unsuspecting customer to wander in. I will definetly check YELP, before EVER going to a NEW restaurant!!!!

The worst host I have ever encountered.... Aloof and yet terribly rude at the same time. Saw this attitude with guests and co workers. Food was fine but rainbow roll was VERY skimpy on fish and one piece had none at all. Server was very nice but the food has gone downhill.

I've eaten here twice and both times were in conjunction with visits to Nebraska Furniture Mart. Visit one consisted of my first time to the Legends of Village West. My fiancee and I were looking around for places to eat that weren't chain restaurants and had options for vegetarians. So Stix was the choice both times. The first time I was honestly scared as I've had way too much of my share of pseudo Asian cuisine aka bastardized Asian food. The menu is broken down into several sections: 1) Hibachi entrees, 2) Asian Wok, 3) Noodles & Rice, 4) Sushi. If you're ordering off the hibachi part of the menu, then you get seated in a different section of the restaurant. Hibachi entrees are always a no no to me. So the first time I ordered the mooshu vegetables off the Asian wok portion. I predicted that it would come out drenched in sauce and too sweet for my tastes as all Americanized cuisine generally is. No I was wrong! Could it be? Mooshu vegetables that taste like they could be from an authentic Chinese restaurant? I was at a loss for words. Visit two I wanted something lighter so got a ginger salad with dressing on the side, seaweed salad, and one order of the vegetable roll. I'm glad I said dressing on the side because my salad would have been completely smothered with it. The seaweed part of the salad was good but I felt like they cheated as the bottom of the bowl contained sliced cucumbers. It was also drenched in a sweet and oily soy vinegar sauce that completely overpowered instead of complementing the cucumbers. Too much for me and my fiancee's taste. If you're comparing let's say P.F. Chang's against Stix, P.F. Chang's is definitely better. 3 stars just for surprising me with a good mooshu vegetable dish. One of my favorites from when I was a kid.

I wish that zero stars was an option because they do not deserve a single star. I have been to stix multiple times but I will never, ever go back. My party of four had reservations at 6:30. We weren't seated until close to 7. We waited and waited for our server to come and take our drink order. We were all wanting to get a beer. We ordered our drinks and she disappeared. 15 minutes later she comes back with 3 drinks and tells me that they don't have what I wanted so I ordered a different beer. It's not like I was ordering something weird, I just wanted a Blue Moon. Another 5 minutes go by and she comes back and tells me that they don't have Boulevard Wheat either, needless to say I told her to forget it. 45 minutes into being there we finally get our food. One girls sushi was lukewarm. I had the Mongolian beef. No joke, if I had 4 bites of beef on my plate I was lucky. I had a plate full of mushrooms and green onions and enough salt to last a lifetime. After we were all done eating we waited for at least another 15 minutes for our server to come give us our checks. It's never a good sign when the other 3 tables that have the same waitress are all going and asking the hostess for tickets so we can all leave. I was finally able to catch a bus boy to get our ticket and we were out of there. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE service and inconsistent food quality have insured that I will never again go to Stix.

We stopped here for lunch around noon on a Thursday. The place was only moderately busy and smelled delicious. I glanced over the menu and realized that several vegetarian options are available, including vegetarian sushi, and dishes you wouldn't normally find as a vegetarian option. We were a bit disappointed by the appetizer menu. The only vegetarian option on it is edamame and a cucumber and tomato salad. The spring rolls and dumplings have vegetables AND chicken, not OR chicken... we even asked if it was possible to have them minus the chicken, but the waiter inquired with the kitchen, and apparently this isn't an option. There are also a couple of vegetarian soups such as miso, but I didn't try any. We skipped the appetizer and I ordered kung pao vegetables with brown rice. My girlfriend had the coconut curry vegetables with white rice. The entrees came out quickly from the kitchen. Both dishes were filled with fresh vegetables, lightly sauteed, and with just the right amount of crunch. I devoured my entree in no time because it was great. My girlfriend's curry was also yummy. This is the kind of place I could easily give five stars if they were a little more flexible with adding or subtracting meat from certain dishes. In all, I will definitely return here, but I'll probably still skip the appetizers unless I'm having sushi with edamame.

The food is a 2-3, the service is a 2 at best. The times I have been here it has seemed to be run by teenagers. It takes awhile to get greeted, and they act like they are annoyed that you even walk in when you ask to be seated. Other than that, this place is only ok bc its close to my house, and has asian foods such as curries, pad thais, etc. Its ok. I havent tried their sushi yet, but a things I have tried , Thai noodle bowl has been pretty good. The Dan Dan Noodles was another thing I tried, but did not like.... Meh.

I think this is the best restaurant The Legends has to offer. I don't know that anywhere in the neighborhood could be considered "intimate," as the Legends shopping area itself feels like a giant daycare center most days. However, the service at Stix has always been excellent. Even when it's really busy inside, the wait doesn't get too long. Everything I have ever ordered has always come out exactly as described on the menu. Their menu allows for lots of customization of dishes, which is especially nice if you have a picky eater with you. Sushi, fried rice, noodle dishes, tofu dishes, appetizers, they are all very good. Hands down, the best place to go for consistently tasty and safe asian cuisine in Wyandotte County!

Can't even rate the food here. Came is being told there was a 10 minute wait. After 30 minutes was finally seated in an area with over 15 open tables. After another 20 minutes of sitting our order was taken. Providing me this frame of my leaves a bad taste in my mouth already. To cap off the sashimi was not very good at all. We did not receive all ordered items and after 1 hour 45 minutes of my evening I should have gone somewhere else.

Another hibachi place that I wasn't impressed with. The waiting was just horrible. They didn't bring the appetizers we ordered, drinks didn't flow like we would've have liked, and on top of it all they missed/messed up our reservation. Food was decent, and the portions were decent, but apart from their fried rice there wasn't anything I thought was spectacular.

If you're out in the far-flung reaches of KCK, perhaps on a trip to Nebraska Furniture Mart as we were, this is a great alternative to all the corporate restaurants. We ate in the main section of the restaurant, it had a lovely ambiance, nice lighting, and a hip bar area near the entry. Our waitress was very helpful and even went so far as to warn me that my selected menu item (Singapore Noodles) wasn't generally a guest favorite. You can read this two ways- one, the food isn't that great, or two, she's looking out for her customers. I went with the second reading and changed my order and was quite happy that I did. The Moo Shu Tofu in Pancakes was faaantastic. Perfectly cooked veggies, nice big chunks of tofu, well spiced sauce, and fresh Asian pancakes. Perfect. The Honey Crispy Shrimp that the spouse ordered was really good as well, and served on a light bed of crispy rice sticks with a side of fried rice. Tasty. On previous visits we've had the sushi, which is as good as most places in the U.S., and my family has enjoyed the meat dishes that they've ordered, particularly the Chicken Lo Mein. I know that other reviewers criticize that this isn't "authentic" Asian food, and I don't disagree, but really let's be honest with ourselves- first of all, "authentic" is a loaded term and authenticity is constantly shifting in meaning, and second, this is a mall in the exurbs, it's all a constructed corporate facade. Think of it as Asian Fusion, then you don't have to fret about the authenticity of it and can just enjoy some tasty food. I wouldn't make the drive all the way out here just to eat at Stix, but if in the area I'm happy to make it my go-to restaurant.

I've eaten at stix before doing the Hibachi. I really enjoyed that at the time so I took my wife there today. We didn't do hibachi but instead opted to just sit at a normal table. I ordered some Sushi, a roll and some soup. My wife ordered something off of their grill (shrimp and rice). The waiter didn't seem to pay much attention. Just grabbed the sheets and left. He brought me the miso soup which is honestly sub par at best. Then my roll minus the sushi. The roll was also very poor quality. The rice wasn't cooked enough so the roll fell apart upon picking it up. Taste wise it seems as if they are trying too hard to be hip and new. I just wasn't enjoying it at all. It's ok.. I had some sushi coming. How hard is it to screw up raw fish and rice, right? Instead the waiter ignored us until we were done with our current items and then brought the check. It had been so long at that point I didn't want the sushi anyways. They didn't show up on the bill so I guess he just choose to ignore what I wrote down on the paper. Nice place, great ambiance. Wouldn't recommend to anyone outside of the basic Hibachi. Over all disappointed in my latest experience. I don't think I'll go back there ever.

I have been there many times. We love it. Last night though we were not happy, we did the Hibachi as we always do. The chief we had last night was bad. The shrimp was not cooked completely and he steak was just terrible. They were busy but that is not an excuse. We will go back, and give it another try.

It been a while since anyone has reviewed this place, so in my Yelping experience, I now know that no news is not necessarily good news if you know what I mean. None the less, if there is one of those "organic" grocery stores near by that has a sushi counter in the back... well exercise your freedom of choice.

We went as a group of 8, had a reservation for 7pm. Arrived on time, even a few minutes early, and still had to wait 10+ minutes for our table to be made ready in a half-empty dining room. The food was very good - our main problem was the service. First, the waiter totally forgot to put in my drink order, had to remind him. No big deal. Then the food comes out and half of my order (had ordered 2 sushi rolls) is missing. I had to flag down the waiter several minutes later to remind him, he disappeared for several minutes more and came back to say that the kitchen had put my roll on the plate of someone else in our party. Ordinarily I'd roll with it (no pun intended) but I don't really know the other guy and he'd already picked at it, so I had to ask the waiter to please just get me a new plate of what I ordered. Then! The waiter comes and tells the other guy, I'm sorry, I need to take the mistake-roll away or else we'll have to charge you for it. This person had two rolls on his plate, one he ordered and one he didn't - the waiter insisted on taking the ENTIRE PLATE back to the kitchen to scrape off the incorrect one, and bring it back after he was done. WTF? "Hey, we made a mistake, but let me take the dinner you're not done eating back to the kitchen for a few minutes." My dinner finally came out after everyone else was done eating. We asked for a manager and she said it really was their policy to have to take 'wrong' food back to the kitchen. She didn't want to offer a discount for either that or the many mistakes the waiter made on my drink/dinner, but we politely insisted and she took off 50% of my food only. OK, thanks - won't be back, and will be sure to write about our experience there.

While shopping at The Legends outlet mall, we stopped here for lunch about 10:30am. Was seated quick as there wasn't a lot of ppl. There are lots of options for dinning in area. I thought the atmosphere was neat, as there were three separate restaurants within the restaurants itself. Chinese, Japanese and Teppanyaki Grill . We decided to go with the Grill. We sat with two other families around a half moon setting. If you're really hungry I would skip the grill and do the others, as it took 20 minutes just for the chef to start grilling. Once he did, it was all for show as the food was blah and way over priced. I ordered the chicken and scallops for $17, pricey for over-cooked everything. The portions were very small. On the menu it doesn't say anything about the amount of sauce that will be on your food. Before I could say anything, it was too late. It would be nice if they gave you the option with or without. I am not a fan of whatever sauce they overly used. It made me sick as everything was way too sweet and dripping. I actually like the natural flavors. Slow service. I should have ordered two waters at a time as there weren't that many people in there. I think they needed to hire more people and have a certain amount for each separate restaurant because of the slow service.

Great place!!! Really fun, and the food is really good!! Great for a date night. The prices are a bit high, but you get a lot for your money, and if you sit on the hibachi side, you get a fun show too! A little busy at times, and space is cramped and uncomfortable around strangers, but really nice overall!

Stix was a last minute choice last Friday for my b-day. The place was really busy but we did not have to wait because we made a reservation. We were sat at a typical tepenyaki table. It took forever to get my drink--yummy rasberry saki and sparkling wine. My friend finally had to ask out server... The onion soup was good and the salad was yummy with ginger dressing. I ordered the filet and scallops and the scallops were HUGE! sometime you get tiny little things but these were supersized and delicious. Our chef was funny, entertaining and well-versed at his trade. I received a song and a bowl of ice cream for my b-day... There were a ton of kids and I was suprised but there was a kids menu... Overall it was a great little hibachi restaurant....

I've been to this particular hibachi restaurant twice and I am always excited to go back. Where else are you going to get dinner with a fun show? Maybe it's a novelty for me, as I can't get anything like this where I live. It's a nice departure from your average Chinese experience. The soup and salad you get with your hibachi are pretty basic, but the best part is the steak and shrimp! My steak is always perfectly cooked, shrimp is perfectly cooked. I think we even had chicken once and it was tasty. You get lots of fried rice, yummy vegetables. I usually have a glass of wine, I think they have a good wine list. Can't speak to the sushi as I have never tried it, but I enjoy going here for the hibachi.

i went there with my friends on my friends birthday. I had really bad experience with server, since she did not care how we were. She seemed pretty angry when she served us.Her name was Candis. The restaurant seemed pretty dirty when i saw kitchen when i tried to go to restroom. I ordered lomein chicken and godzilla. The food seemed ok. Not that great. in the future i would not go there, and would not recommend anyone going there. I know so much better sushi places, like drunken fish at downtown kansas. They just opened.I looove their sushi. And the most important thing is servers were nice and clean kitchen!!! finally.

We tried this place and I was very happy with the food. The first time we went we sat at the grill and watched the show and it was good. The next time we sat at a table and just got the food without the show and it was nice to have the choice to get the food without the show and be by yourself. The sushi was awsome and have to complaints about the place.

So this is like a fusion place: hibachi, Chinese and Japanese. We decided to stick to the basics and ordered hibachi sirloin steak, hot and sour soup (made out of soy sauce and eggs!!), General Chu chicken and Kung Pao chicken. None of it was spicy other than the looks. Okay, so the fried rice was passable... So very disappointed... BTW, I stop trusting restaurants that do not have authentic chefs in the kitchen. No offense, it's just psychological...

The service is hit or miss and the decor is not bad. My issue is that you cannot order your entire meal because the courses are not properly spaced out. For this to happen, you must order one course at a time so you are not sitting there with an appetizer and soup while one or the other loses heat. The food has always tasted fresh and top notch...I can't complain there.

First of all, let me say that the star rating system is a little misleading. (ie two negative stars and three positives) However, I hope to help the average joe or jane understand what to expect at Stix at Villiage West. Our party of two showed up at 2:30 and we decided to eat at the Teppanyaki/Hibachi grill. Here's what we ordered: Fried Calamari Godzilla Roll KC Strip w/ Onion Soup, Fried Rice, and Hot Tea Hibachi Shrimp w/ Onion Soup, Fried Rice, and Tea First, the Calamari: Typically what you would expect from a mid-level dining experience. It was well cooked with a good presentation, but the breading was bland and the chili sauce nearly flavorless. I chose to dip my calamari in the soy at the table. It was okay, I guess. I've had better. The Godzilla roll was excellent, and the artfully crafted piece of squash was appealing to the palate and eyes. The onion soup was bland and darn near room temperature. I could probably recreate this at home with beef stock with a small amount of green onions. The contents reminded me a little of potsticker sauce but with less onions. I wasn't impressed, even in the slightest. The hot tea was delicious, but served in a plain coffee cup. It's almost like they didn't even try to make it seem Asian. As to be expected for coming at a dead time of day, my companion didn't have to wait for refills of the iced tea, which was also tasty. Before I continue, I must say: I don't expect to hear god-awful pop music when dining in a Asian cuisine restaurant. I hope the owners look into that. The music was too loud and obtrusive to our dining experience. I'd prefer to have it off. The timing of the courses was completely off. We had the soup, just a few minutes later, the sushi roll, a few minutes later, the calamari appetizer. It was hard to watch the chef (Chef Wu) cook our meal. That's all he did. He cooked our meal. No witty banter, no parlor tricks, no juggling, nothing. I was genuinely disappointed. The hibachi table next to ours got quite a show, with a huge fireball (fire, fire!), some casual humor about the ingredients, and some friendly conversation. It's almost as though our chef didn't even want to be here. Again, I am disappointed. I ordered my steak medium-rare, I got a medium. I would have been okay with that, if he hadn't cut my steak into pieces. It is very important that a steak rest after cooking to retain those delicious juices. I can cut my own steak. The shrimp was tasty, but the quantity was a little small. The vegetables (squash, onions, and mushrooms) were very good and the sauce they were cooked with was excellent. I have no problem with the fried rice, it was delicious, and for me, the star of the meal. If I go again, I'll order this and sushi. The waitress was polite, but not overly so. Much like the chef, it's like she didn't want to be there, either. However, she was quick to refill our beverages and take our empty plates away. So, Stix earns two stars from me for the following reasons: 1. No ambiance whatsoever. (the god-awful music, bright lighting) 2. Meh service from the waitstaff and chef. I want a show with my food if I'm eating at a Hibachi style joint! 3. Food was good but not overly so. Someone needs to show them how to use spices. I left stuffed and satisfied. Fried rice was the star of the show. 4. The sushi was good, but for a good sampling I'll have to go back. 5. Prices were a bit high for what you get, especially the calamari. I can get it cheaper and better flavored somewhere else. I've had better, but I'll give it another try and post another review. Don't disappoint me again, Admiral...I mean Stix.

I'm a Hibachi freak. I've eaten at at least 15 Hibachi-sit around the table with the grill built in it-get all 6 courses-restaurants. Okay, with that shameful admission, I have another. I HATE sushi. I have been dragged to some of the best sushi places in the country.....and they all taste horrible...to me anyway. So at STIX I ate at the......Hibachi table. I would actually rank this place in my top 5 Hibachi restaurants in food quality and taste. The chef was Asian which seems rare these days. The service was pretty good, they rushed us through the last time I was there on the weekend, but they got all our orders correct and never let a glass get empty. I remember nothing of the decor. It was packed with people, so I think that took my attention. The price for the top 5 food was actually a little lower than average. So I bumped it up to 4 stars.

I spent my birthday at Stix and LOVED it. We sat at the sushi bar and the guy making the rolls, sushi and sashimi was super friendly and the size of the portions were larger than I expected and have been served at other places. The food was fresh and affordable. The guy making our sushi made me a special spicy seafood salad I absolutely loved. I recommend this place to people who love Sushi, portions are good and price is reasonably affordable without quality being compromised. With it being my birthday they gave me a complimentary dessert (Ice Cream) I thought it was sweet. I will be going back soon and often!

The only reason they got two stars is because the hostess was very nice and the server was prompt. I ordered a bowl of onion soup, a side salad with ginger dressing and a shrimp tempura roll. Onion soup: typical. Good taste. Missing the fried onion Salad: they use cheap iceberg lettuce and the ginger dressing was mixed with mayo. I'm guess that's the way they stretch it to get more product??? Roll: they did not use a freshly fried tempura shrimp. The roll was very cold. At the end the server came to collect for the bill. My bill came to $15.00. I gave her a twenty and she asked me if she should keep the change. Umm no sweetheart and this is why I'm taking back a star. You did nothing that spectacular to deserve a tip greater than 20% and the kitchen should have given me fresh shrimp. Not one that had been sitting for a while. I mean damn, they could have microwaved the thing to make me think it was fresh.

The Red Dragon Roll was really tasty but $13. The Spicy Tuna roll was bland and I think $8. With tip, I paid $25 for two mediocre rolls. That is a lot for KCK fancy eating. I hate to say it, but since this is KC and real fresh sushi is nowhere to be found, I would rather go to RA or Kona for HappyHour, or Sushi Mido for lunch special. My friend loves the ginger salad and buys the dressing. Service is just OK. The workers seem kind of sad to be there, and I would like more professionalism. I find this typical at The Legends, though. Western Wyandotte County probably has nowhere else for sushi, so I will probably go there again sometime when meeting up with one particular sushi-loving friend.

Yes this place is located right outside the mall. However, once you step in, the atmosphere changes. Nice cozy and chic setup. They serve both traditional Japanese food as well as Americanized asian food. It works really well. Given the price, location and ambiance, this is a good place to spend when the Sporting KC game gets rained out. Good for a group of friends and good for the family!

I have a lot to say here. First of all, I planned a month in advance for my niece's birthday. I made a reservation for 15 people like 3 weeks before I even got to town. We still had to wait almost an hour to be seated. What's the point of making a reservation then? Our table was outside of the kitchen, so you could see back there. It was kind of filthy and messy. The bathrooms were filthy The beer was served luke warm. The pluses are, the customer service was great. They did a great job managing a party of 15 and also did a great job helping us celebrate the birthday. It was very interactive and everyone had a great time. The hibachi shrimp, steak and fried rice were good. I will go back. It's not the best hibachi I've had, but it wasn't bad. They just need a little operational improvement like regular bathroom and kitchen cleaning, managing reservations better and making sure beer is served cold

Stix is one of our favorite places in KC. We started going when it opened and we lived an hour away. We have sat in the hibachi room once, and it was a great experience. I like that you can sit in the main dining area and still order from the hibachi. We have had so many different things, and it has all been delicious. Everything is always fresh. The portion sizes are good. The waitstaff always seems to be knowledgeable, accommodating, and pleasant. The birthday song they perform is one of the best...along with a Japanese drum. Once we went in after my son's soccer team won a tournament. We shared the news without our waiter, and later they came out with the drum and made a big deal of it. He even got the free dessert as if it was his birthday. It made his day! Although we rarely order the same entree...we have to add the Dynamite or Las Vegas Sushi Roll...and sometimes both. Other sushi we have had was amazing, and always fresh and well presented. Stix is definitely a place to check out if you are at The Legends...it is also worth a drive if you don't plan to be in that area.

Absolutely terrible! Food and service was really not good. The two guys behind the sushi bar had no idea about sushi at all. Is was actually humorous and I felt like I was being tricked or something. I asked for a beer and the server just set the bottle down and walked away. I had to ask for a glass as if that was weird or something. The maki was tiny and tasted like soapy water. I can't believe this place gets any business at all

We went in for hibachi and the show was indeed fun. However all I felt I ate was soy sauce dredged food. From the rice to the steak and scallops all I tasted was the soy sauce- was just too salty!

This food is so delicious I would chop it up and feed it to my third born child. The curry is spicy enough to burn a hole in your great uncle's big toe, but forgiving enough to donate to a local pediatric hospital. I would eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner here everyday if possible.

Wifey likes sushi but i don't like cold rice. I really love the Ginger Salad here. Too bad they don't sell the dressing cuz I'll take a case please. Had the Teriyaki with chicken today and it was real good. Also had the fried rice. Why is the fried rice here so good. I asked and was told it was onion. Gotta be something else but damnnnnnn it's good. Had the sampler appetizer with bang bang chicken, dumplings and crab Rangoon. Very good. Ok about the wait staff. Every dang one of them was sooooo nice and polite. Never had an empty glass. Smiles everywhere.

We had a girls night out at this restaurant. We usually go to RA Sushi for our midnight sushi cravings but since we were in the area, we thought to give it a try. We sat at the bar as there was a huge waiting line for table or hibachi seating. We ordered Vegas Rolls, Shrimp Rolls, Crab Wontons, and Salad. The whole food was average. I won't say it was wow if you compare it to other sushi places in KC. Overall, we had a good experience!

I am not a sushi fan, nor seafood. However, I had the crunchy (or crispy?) Shrimp roll and the veggie roll. I was especially fond of the veggie roll. I have only had sushi from the Hyvee in Mission, so Styx was a huge step up. My fiance and i shared the appetizer sampler, which included bang bang chicken (that was new, and so good) dumplings, and crab rangoon. by far, the best rangoon i have had. I then had the general chu with chicken. Crispy, moist, rice was cooked well. Flavorful with a spicy kick. We ended the night with dessert - the apple wontons! It was OK. Not very sweet, and wasn't warm at all. I think if they could work on the recipe a bit, it would be great. As of now, until i am to find another restaurant with even better sushi - this is my go-to place. Oh, i forgot about the egg drop soup. SO delicious. Chicken, shrimp, mushrooms, tomatoes... seasoned and hot. Amazing. Made my night. (No more 90's crockpot egg drop soup from Aloha Chopstix!)

Not a bad sushi restaurant. Service was quick at the sushi bar and drinks came overly quickly. Kind of quiet at 330 pm on a friday.

My wife and I order take out. I ordered the mango spicy tuna roll. It was ok, but not for $13. My wife ordered the hibachi steak to the tune of $25. It was supposed to come with soup and salad, but they left that off and screwed us in the drive thru. Not worth the $$.

I question the freshness of the fish for the sushi and the tuna for the sashimi. It could be because it is before holiday weekend, Friday July 2, just not as fresh tasting as other sushi place at the Plaza in downtown KC. Also wasabi not as "hot" either

No stars if I could. Being from California there is so many eating options that this place wouldn't last a day there. Poorly managed and operated. Food is okay, but not totally worth the awful service you'll receive and the disconcern of the manager. First off you'll wait forever to be seated and I encountered the most unfriendly hostess ever! She was rude and just unhappy. Hostess isn't the right choice for her. We were offered child chopsticks which were made out of uncovered chopsticks, bits of paper, and a rubber band to make training chopsticks. Upon closer expection we noticed teeth marks in the chopsticks. We asked for a manager and he said they were made these this morning. We asked to look at other ones and they all had some sort of marks in them like they aren't fresh out of the wrapper. Even after him and I touched these child chopsticks he put them back into the container of them, if i was sick they all would have been contaminated. Wood is very porous and there's a reason why disposable chopsticks have wrappers and for them to give children these uncovered possibly perviously used chopsticks is quite concerning and utterly disgusting . Given the condition of the cleaniness of our small plates we did not trust the child in our dinner party to use them. I will not be back here and I'd highly advise you to check your plates and silverware, also DONT USE THE CHILD CHOPSTICKS

I can only review the very short experience I had here. I walked in during lunch time on a Saturday afternoon, they didn't look extremely busy or anything but I said I'm ordering to go and proceeded to walk toward the bar, which is right there in the front, assuming the bartender is going to take care of me. And older gentleman who looks like the owner or manager tells me to sit down relax and have a drink and the hostess brings me a menu. I order and give my sushi order to the bartender who walks it to the hostess, who took care of me the rest of the time. I ordered the jalapeño yellowtail shashimi and the rock and roll (bbq Eel). The Yellowtail was damn good, I'd get that again in a heart beat, the bbq eel roll was drenched in sauce so I couldn't really taste it. I want to go try more but my experience here was good today :)

This is an nice average Americanized sushi/hibachi chain. Sushi was normal quality for this type of establishment and the hibachi was decent. Left full and happy and our server was on top of refills and requests.

Not sure why they only get 2.5 stars here on Yelp. I thought the food was excellent and the service was attentive. Maybe a little on the pricey side compared to other sushi places I've been to, but that's my only negative for Stix.

Went here for my birthday with a large group. We sat at one of the tables where they cook your food in front of you. I had a great time, and the food was good too. We had reservations and only waited about 5 minutes before our table was ready.

Styx has really gone downhill. My family and I have been here more than 5 times and this was the worse visit yet. My son chose to come here for his birthday. First we arrived a little early and it was a good thing since they lost our reservations. Then they had us wait past our original reservation time to fill up a hibachi table since we only took up half the table even though the table next to us only had a half full table. 25 minutes on a Monday night to get seated. The host/ hostess was not very nice but the atmosphere was as would be expected. The server seemed new and tried hard. The chef was good and the food was fairly good but way expensive. Overall not the best and may not try again.

Shoe shopping at The Legends, and wanted to grab a bite somewhere that wasn't too heavy and had a better chance than most of providing vegetable-heavy entrees. Stix, it is. Didn't do the hibachi, so can't speak to that. Eh, kinda typical for a mall-friendly "pan-Asian" dealio...definitely edible, but nothing you'd make the trip out there for. We started with a few of their "mini" rolls off the sushi menu...not quite of the "I picked up this tray of sushi at the SunFresh deli counter" level, but nothing super amazing, either. Tasted fresh, but wasn't anything really exciting, and most of the specialty rolls (which we didn't get, we just got simple spicy yellowfin and salmon rolls) looked to be QUITE expensive; I hope they were put together with a little more artistry at the price points I saw. My entree was a Thai-ish coconut curry that at first looked like it wasn't going to be that exciting. I like a good variety of veggies in my curries, and this one just had a few red pepper chunks, a couple of slices of zucchini, a lot of onion, and a basil leaf, in addition to the chicken. However, the sauce was a great texture and flavor, and seasoned just right. It was very filling, once I got to eating, the serving size was more than it initially appeared. BF was pleased with his Szechuan beef (I tried it, and the spice level was good, not too blanded down) and it came with more of a variety of vegetables. The service was okay, server read back our order, but still screwed up the drinks. She was nice, though. I did find the place to be a little less clean than it could have been...it was slightly after lunch rush, but there were a few too many unwiped tables and straw wrappers lying about for a place that was trying to do more upscale-ish decor for a mall setting. I left satisfied, and I'd eat there again if I found myself at the Legends at mealtime, but probably would never make the trip to specifically eat here.

I do not know if the it is management or lack of staff, the quality of the food at this restaurant has suffered. I ordered the volcano roll, it was burned. Instead of the chef correcting this order, he served to me. I was carryout customer, so it would have been inconvenient to return the unsatisfactory product. It is sad that such substandard food is the expectation that their customers receive. I am going to another sushi restaurant even if I have to leave the county to find it. Shame. Shame. Vicky, you should look at the quality that your staff is delivering.

Disgusting!!!! Worse hibachi/sushi ever!! Don't waste your money at this location. I will never come back..The food wasn't fresh, everything taste it old/awful. I have to put one star because the system doesn't let me leave a review without it, but this place doesn't even deserved one star it is that bad....

Hubby and I were out shopping in the neighborhood and thought we'd try Stix. The decor was okay. The Hostess was friendly and we were greeted and seated right away. We sat at the bar and ordered a variety of sushi. The prices for their specialty rolls were astronomical compared to where we usually go (Kato/Zara Sushi) and the rolls were NOT well made. Sushi rolls should not fall apart when you pick them up with chopsticks. That's just wrong. While we sat there, one dish was sent out wrong and brought back and the waiter caught another dish that was supposed to have salmon and it had tuna. Weird mistakes for it being so slow. BTW, I'm not a sushi expert, but I've eaten a lot of it in my life and I've never seen sashimi cut so thick. It was very off-putting. Given the location and the poor craftsmanship of the food I can't say we'll ever go back for a second try.

Great place to eat. I went their couple time on the weekend. The weekend pretty rush but we understand. We enjoy our hibachi show a lot because the chef so funny and nice.

Hubby and I stopped in here after exchanging some shoes at Cole Haan. There really aren't a lot of food options up at The Legends unless you want barbecue or fried stuff, so chain sushi was the order of the day. The sushi wasn't horrible, but definitely nothing to write home about. There are some "fancy" rolls that are simply a bunch of various stuff piled on top of pieces of imitation crabstick sushi. They also seem to have a lot of Americanized pseudo-Asian dishes that you couldn't get me to touch with a ten foot pole. The service was fast and efficient. The floor was very sticky by our table, but otherwise the place seemed relatively clean. If I were up at The Legends and had to eat, this place isn't a terrible option, but I certainly wouldn't make a special trip to eat here.

Was recently here to catch up with a friend who just got engaged. We went to the Hibachi area and expected a bigger crowd since we were there during the lunch hour. No one else joined our hibachi table and so we got a command performance. Our chef was so friendly and he made us feel special even though I'm sure he would have loved to ham it up for a larger crowd. Great food and a great atmosphere to catch up with my friend - who works right around the corner from that place. I'm sure I would be here more often if I lived anywhere nearby!
Food was not good and overpriced for the quality. The chicken was dry, the shrimp was old, and the sushi was warm. I will never be back again!

Very disappointed in this restaurant, especially for the prices. When we first got there, there was a little wait, so we ordered a drink at the bar. Drink was good, but that's the only good thing about this restaurant. We got seated in the Hibachi side. I ordered shrimp/lobster, not very much food for the price, then I ordered another drink and didn't receive that till my dinner was done. I still gave 20% gratuity and I so regret that. To top it off I got food poisoning from the lobster! I will never go there again and I would tell anyone to never go there.

Our worst hibachi experience yet. We went at 5 PM on a Saturday evening. They herded us (family of 6) in with six other people. Got us to the table and serviced us so quickly...we felt prodded and rushed. They took our order so quickly that we could not understand the waitress and the other guests at our table were afraid to attempt to order anything because we couldn't get a word in edgewise. There was not enough arm room at the tables to move our arms as we ate. Our server was rude and rushed. Our food was less than decent. Feeling like herded cattle while eating steak is no fun Getting the check at the end of the night was the most painful part of our experience.

I'm giving 2 stars because my husband found the ever elusive blue crab roll and he loved it. However, the server took our drink order and came back 10 minutes later with 2 glasses of water. I ordered an unsweetened iced tea and hubby ordered a sprite. At first I thought we were getting water with our drink order......nope, never served the drinks we ordered. The sushi rolls were served quickly. The menu items we ordered took 25 minutes to be served. I ordered the shrimp lo mein and hubby ordered sweet a n d sour chicken. Not sure what took so long since it wasn't busy for a Saturday afternoon. The service was lacking and the 3 different servers we had didn't seem to know what was going on. We won't be going back.

My husband and I have been to both the hibachi side and regular sushi side. I found the hibachi side unpleasant. Our waiter was arrogant and thought he was the most interesting man in the room. Not a good a trait for a waiter. Messed up our drink order too. Never brought our alcohol and wasn't around till he brought the check to try and remind him. Our chef proceeded to tease and make fun of several people in our table which I again found very rude. His skills weren't impressive either. The sushi side was better. We enjoyed the rolls. Good but not super special. A little pricey but it's The Legends so it's expected. Our server was very attentive. Very proficient and she deserves a star on her own. The other star was for the food itself.

The food is decent. We ordered sushi as well as food from the grill. The specialty rolls were actually pretty good. The food from the grill, on the other hand was a little bit too salty. Everything had way too much soy sauce in it. But it was edible. Even though the food was subpar, the service was great. We came as a large party and they made sure to take care of us. We got all of our food within 15 minutes of ordering. Our drinks were constantly refilled without asking. We even brought in our own cake and they cut it and served it for us without charging us a service fee. I was really impressed with their service.
For some time now I've had a craving for sushi. Mr. P wouldn't oblige and take me 6 blocks down the street to the local sushi joint, but instead carted me all the way out to the Legends where I skillfully tricked him into eating at Stix. We shared the steamed dumplings, lettuce wraps, edema me, the red dragon roll, and three pieces of California roll and three of spicy tuna roll. Sound like a lot of food? It certainly was for me! Honestly the dumplings, lettuce wraps, California roll and spicy tuna roll were fairly standard. Not mind blowing, but tasty. There are places on 39th and State Line that offer better versions, but Stix's version was still good. They really scored points with the red dragon roll. The presentation was dragon-like with the thinnest sliced crab draped across the top. The crunch of the shrimp tempura was a slight surprise (full confession: I didn't know what "tempura" meant when I ordered), but a delicious surprise. The waiter was friendly, but it always seems a bit loud to me regardless of the number of people in the restaurant at the time. If you're in the area, check it out. I wouldn't make a special trip just for the sushi.

Stix has much better than average sushi. Try the red dragon or the crab special. The reason they don't earn 5 stars is because all their hibatchi is smothered in a disgustingly sweet teriyaki sauce no choice of traditional ginger sauce, mustard based steak . Stix always overcooks their shrimp no matter what dish you order it is always leathery and flavorless. Most the time steak and chicken is over cooked as well. The one protein they seem to respect is scallops. Their salads with ginger dressing and their fried rice are very good. As appetizers go nothing great to speak of . I actually reccommend to avoid the crab Rangoon it lacks any depth of flavor and has very little filling. I hope the owners/ managers read this, it would be wonderful if they would make changes in order to put out some decent hibatchi/ Chinese food.

Ever since Conan the Barbarian was first asked, "What is best in life?" mankind has been struggling with that question. Although a definitive answer has eluded us, for this reviewer at least, whatever the ultimate answer is, it does not include the Legends Mall or any restaurant inside it. This type of queued-up, mass market dining experience is the opposite of what this reviewer is looking for in a dinner. Feel free to leave your baseball caps on people, it's not a real restaurant. So...Stix and I were bound not to get along from the start. This by way of disclaimer. As for the food, the hibachi is no better or no worse than any other bog-standard hibachi restaurant. The tuna sushi appetizer was perhaps a shade below what one might expect elsewhere, the fried rice was perhaps a shade better. The steak and chicken were fine but in no way exceptional. The shrimp disappointing. However where the restaurant really falls down is its inability to rationally and efficiently manage the flow of diners: the wait was far far too long given the number of empty tables. The staff were friendly enough - they just weren't particularly skilled at their jobs. Given the hefty cost, your best bet is to keep driving. At speed. Don't look back.

Seeing as Topeka has some pretty slim-pickings for Thai food, Stix offers another option - without having to go all the way into Kansas City. We went on Mother's Day. It was quite busy but the service was still timely and the food was very tasty. Pleasant atmosphere too, although a bit noisy (bratty kids at the table next to us) but not too bad. The servings were gigantic and we ended up taking home enough to have as another meal. Topekans: If you're in the area and want to something you can't get at home, this is on the same quality level as Tuptim Thai, but with a different selection of menu options as well as a hibachi and sushi to boot. Yum!

Good service. Sushi is just okay, definitely not the best around. My dad and husband enjoyed the food from the grill. Would probably come back for the grill but not for sushi.

I went for the first time today and I was very disappointed overall. The service was very slow even though there were only about 10 people there. We tried the Asian wok menu and unfortunately both of the plates we got were terribly bland. I had a sauce that was supposed to be spicy but it was far from it and tasted overly bland and the only spice was an overwhelming hit of salt. This was my first and only trip to this bland and overpriced experience.

Went for lunch before going back home from a vacation. We did the Hibachi grill (we love those styles of restaurants) for lunch and it was decent! We had the Bang Bang Chicken as an appetizer which was good (not spicy at all like they said it was on the menu) and the food was great. The chef was very entertaining, and the wait staff was very prompt and courteous. We didn't try the sushi.

Ate here on 2/2/13. Definitely a serviceable asian cusine restaraunt but nothing special. Started with the crab wontons at the suggestion of our server. Once they were delivered we discovered that they were really nothing more than crab rangoon. Sent them back and changed our order to the cocunut shrimp appetizer which was amazing. For entrees, I went the sushi route while my wife went with Pad Thai. The volcano roll was decent but nothing to write home about. The sashimi (tuna) that I ordered was fresh and the Unagi was definitely done right. The Pad Thai wasnt that great. The sauce wasnt like anything that I had ever tasted. All in all, would go back again and could recommend it to friends and family.

Went here with some girlfriends for dinner last night. We shared steamed dumplings and lettuce wraps which were both very good. The sauce that came with the dumplings was delicious! We shared the red dragon, double shrimp and volcano roll. The presentation on the red dragon roll was quite neat, with maraschino cherries on toothpicks to look like the "eyes" of the dragon. The sushi was all fine, but it tasted a bit like grocery store sushi (yes, I know we're in Kansas). I've definitely had better, fresher tasting sushi in KC, but this wasn't awful. Another poster said "don't make a special trip for the sushi" and that's exactly what I'd say. It's good, but don't come here expecting something awesome like Drunken Fish or Nara. I've been here twice for hibachi and it was tasty and entertaining. The menu provides something for everyone.

TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! Went with wife and two small kids on 8/31/13. We were told it would be a 20 min wait. We were skipped and waited over an hour. I asked numerous times where are we on the list. Finally I was told they called us but we didn't show. They never called us! Instead of apologizing and getting us on the next table, they were rude and put us back at the bottom. Other groups were called before us. Finally I had to yell at the manager. Everyone was rude and the food wasn't that great!

Not often do you find a hibachi restaurant that also has great sushi. This is the place. Fun for groups or great for a small meal as well. Kids love the show and adults get more food than they can eat.

NO WAY JOSE!!!! I thought this place would be quality (especially judging from menu price), but it turns out the contemporary decor is merely a façade for the terrible job they do in the kitchen. Do the cooks not know how to clean shrimp? A restaurant that doesn't care to clean the shrimp surely doesn't care about other aspects. Like with most things at the legends, this restaurant screams novelty, and may be "good enough" for some, but when you see how they deal with the minor things, you start to wonder about the other things. I wouldn't recommend this place, save your money and go to a panda express. If you want true hibachi/Japanese food, try Hibachi on the plaza.

My boyfriend and I headed here with another couple for dinner on a Saturday night. We arrived around 6:00 pm and had a small wait (~20 min) for Hibachi. I did like their waiting area since it had the bar in the open waiting area. The Hibachi table where we sat had a really bad draft and was cold! We could not wait for the flames to start! I decided to just get sushi while everyone else had Hibachi. Of course they put on a good show. What place like this doesn't!?! On to the food...overall, disappointing! The sushi was ok, not bad, just ok. I ordered two rolls and they just didn't have much flavor (one had jalapeno in it and the other eel sauce). The Hibachi, sure they gave a ton of rice and vegetables, but it really lacked flavor. I ate a piece of shrimp and some vegetables from my boyfriend's plate but it really lacked flavor. He normally likes and eats everything without a complaint but he even said this one wasn't that great. Would we come back, maybe, but it will be quite a while as there are better places to eat in that area.

We always eat in a booth. We usually start with the salmon Rangoon appetizer, a delicious variation of the more well known crab Rangoon. We then share the hot and sour soup for two, don't forget the crunchy fried wonton strips. Then we enjoy the Las Vegas rolls, California rolls and Godzilla rolls. This has been a winning combo for us and it is the best we've ever had, although a little pricey so we dine there only occasionally.

AARG! I don't think I've written a bad review yet BUT this one has to be done! The only thing good about my experience was my date, and a first date at that! What made this experience so extremely frustrating is how badly I wanted to lash out an complain, but for first date appearances I painfully restrained myself. We had to wait a good 10 minutes to be seated on a Wednesday, even when over half the restaurant was empty. Once we were seated we waited over 15 minutes to get any service, not even water. Our server seemed to have too many table or something because throughout our whole experience we maybe saw her 3 times. We had planned on ordering an appetizer as well as wine, but our sever took our paper sushi menu and didn't even try and upsale us at anything. I told her I wanted to order wine with my meal but by the time she came back we had already finished our meal. So it was a cheap meal at least, only 23 bucks. Simply because we couldnt get the chance to order anything else?! Thanks Yelp for letting me finally LASH out. GRR styx you stink.

Our company is close to the airport so I used to have to go all the way to The Plaza (downtown) to eat good sushi in Kona Grill, now I can just drive to Legends and get to Stix in no time because it is not traffic. The food is pretty good... hibachi or sushi. The service is very attentive and the hostess very accomodating to any need. Having a full bar is a plus and they have specials every night. Very good atmosphere too... specially if you want to have a date and impress your girl.

The service was coo... But when she brought out the water there was like some shi* on the straw... Really threw us off . We order Singapore noodles , rock and roll and crunchy sh roll...oh and BBQ wings . All the food was a disappointment . The noodles tasted too much like curry... The wings came out so late! The rolls were pathetic I'm a sushi fanatic and if your looking for real sushi Don't* come here ! The rice was so smushy so the rolls fell apart after we "ate" we went to hooters and just got burgers ...

So, I fell into the commercialism of Valentine's Day and went to Stix for dinner. Didn't go for the Hibachi as last minute reservation would have probably kept us waiting till 10 pm and I was in the mood for sushi anyway. Our server was great, our glasses were filled with water and came with lemons without asking (Gasp!). The Tuna Tataki under Chef's special was A-Ok, the Dragon Roll is highly recommended and the Chicken Pad Thai was delicious! Would go back again.

I came here with almost my entire family the weekend my sister graduated from college. There are 9 of us kids...if you add in kids and significant others it can add up pretty quick. This time there were only 13 of us but that's enough to take up an entire hibachi table. I should also mention that we are all from Colorado: the mile high state and we are Irish. There is a reason for me telling you this. You see in order for all of us to get along in a semi-civilized manner we need our alcohol. If we are at a significantly lower altitude we need much more alcohol. Are you starting to see where I'm going yet? We will pay good money if you make sure this happens. Our server apparently didn't understand this. I'm not sure why, when we are ordering crown royal and high-end martinis right off the bat. Hey! Where are you going with my glass?!?! Are you filling it up? The answer is no. Food was decent but nothing I haven't had at any other hibachi. More than anything I was shocked (having waited tables myself in the past) that the server didn't take advantage of us. I can see why it's busy with the options Kansas City doesn't offer. But I certainly wouldn't make a special trip for Stix.

This is the place to go for sushi in Wyandotte County. The only place, I'm guessing. And it's actually really good, for Kansas City! They also have hibachi, and an "Asian" menu, which has the typical dishes from various Asian cuisines, like Thai-type dishes and Chinese dishes. They're far from authentic, but still very tasty. There is nothing on the menu I've tried that was not delicious. But I mainly go for the sushi. As of late, they've even had Wednesday happy hour sushi specials!!

Had a great experience here with my team for our holiday party. We ate in the hibachi side of the restaurant, which is always fun with a big group.

Quite honestly one star is generous in my book, valentines evening and the hostess decides to put 8 people at a table where one couple would have to sit on opposites sides of the hibachi grill, instead of politely apologizing and offering us the next available table she sticks my husband on the end where the cook would regularly put his cart. Causing all the employees to either bump into him or make him move acting like he was the problem when they put him there! The food overall was bland and undercooked. I had food poisoning before the meal was even over, my husbands sushi fell apart before he could even attempt to eat it and the only time the cook spoke to the table was to ask how we wanted our steak done and to awkwardly force a lady into catching the shrimp after she had repeatedly said no, then made walrus noises at her when she did catch the shrimp because he wouldn't take no as an answer, overall the whole situation was awkward. Not to mention they took my husbands soda for a refill and didn't return with it for 20 minutes, by the time I was done eating my whole meal he was just receiving his steamed rice and chicken poor poor service and attention to detail I will NEVER return here ever. Go to any other hibachi place in town and they will put Styx to shame and are cheaper for better food entertainment sushi and service.

This restaurant is the best hibachi/sushi combo restaurant I've been to in the KC area. They manage to do both hibachi and sushi superbly for reasonable prices. Something not all restaurants can manage for some reason. I LOVE their hibachi steak and scallops! I love love love their variety of sushi as well. I make a point to hit this restaurant up whenever I'm down near the legends.

Went in for lunch on a monday at 1230. It's currently 1:03 haven't got our waters yet. This California roll I'm trying to eat is dry and I can't tell if it's crab in here or some blah chopped up fish. It's awful. I'm hoping the lunch wok I ordered is edible. This place is Bad.

Had the honey crispy with shrimp lunch special... I thought it would be similar to honey walnut shrimp but was disappointed. One thing I noticed... When the waiter showed up and took our order, he had his hands in his pockets. Kinda weird...

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

(4)Todd P.

(2)Gordon M.
I have been there many times. We love it. Last night though we were not happy, we did the Hibachi as we always do. The chief we had last night was bad. The shrimp was not cooked completely and he steak was just terrible. They were busy but that is not an excuse. We will go back, and give it another try.
(2)Harold S.

Very good hand rolls . Been there many times and has always been great. Order the dragon roll..fantastic.

(2)Andrea H.
Great place!!! Really fun, and the food is really good!! Great for a date night. The prices are a bit high, but you get a lot for your money, and if you sit on the hibachi side, you get a fun show too! A little busy at times, and space is cramped and uncomfortable around strangers, but really nice overall!
(4)Kristen B.
(3)Kelly K.
(4)Julia E.
i went there with my friends on my friends birthday. And the most important thing is servers were nice and clean kitchen!!! finally.
(1)David W.
We tried this place and I was very happy with the food. The first time we went we sat at the grill and watched the show and it was good. The next time we sat at a table and just got the food without the show and it was nice to have the choice to get the food without the show and be by yourself. The sushi was awsome and have to complaints about the place.
(4)Tammy C.
(2)jennifer j.

(2)Erik R.
(4)Paulette B.
(4)C K.
(1)Rose L.
(3)Alex L.

I can't believe this place gets any business at all
(1)Ellen K.
We went in for hibachi and the show was indeed fun. However all I felt I ate was soy sauce dredged food. From the rice to the steak and scallops all I tasted was the soy sauce- was just too salty!
(3)Alyssa B.
This food is so delicious I would chop it up and feed it to my third born child. The curry is spicy enough to burn a hole in your great uncle's big toe, but forgiving enough to donate to a local pediatric hospital. I would eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner here everyday if possible.
(5)Michael G.

(3)Jenise H.
This place is the best! I literally can eat their sushi everyday! So good! Nice people awesome fried rice, just added the best happy hour menu
(5)Patrick Y.
Not a bad sushi restaurant. Service was quick at the sushi bar and drinks came overly quickly. Kind of quiet at 330 pm on a friday.
(4)Mark J.
My wife and I order take out. I ordered the mango spicy tuna roll. It was ok, but not for $13. My wife ordered the hibachi steak to the tune of $25. It was supposed to come with soup and salad, but they left that off and screwed us in the drive thru. Not worth the $$.
(2)Mark F.
I question the freshness of the fish for the sushi and the tuna for the sashimi. It could be because it is before holiday weekend, Friday July 2, just not as fresh tasting as other sushi place at the Plaza in downtown KC. Also wasabi not as "hot" either
(2)Sarah H.

(4)Jessi B.
This is an nice average Americanized sushi/hibachi chain. Sushi was normal quality for this type of establishment and the hibachi was decent. Left full and happy and our server was on top of refills and requests.
(4)Ashley L.
Food is good but service is the worst I've ever experienced in my life. If you have 3 hours for dinner then this is the place for you
(1)Ken S.
Not sure why they only get 2.5 stars here on Yelp. I thought the food was excellent and the service was attentive. Maybe a little on the pricey side compared to other sushi places I've been to, but that's my only negative for Stix.
(4)Thomas P.
Went here for my birthday with a large group. We sat at one of the tables where they cook your food in front of you. I had a great time, and the food was good too. We had reservations and only waited about 5 minutes before our table was ready.
(4)Davin K.

(3)Marsha J.
(1)J C.
(1)Shelley Y.
(2)Jessica K.
Great place to eat. I went their couple time on the weekend. The weekend pretty rush but we understand. We enjoy our hibachi show a lot because the chef so funny and nice.
(4)Ann W.
(2)Stephen H.
(4)Dana N.
Honestly... giving this place 1 star is already too much. The pricing for the quality of food does not match. Okay so I'll give them one star for the decor that's it. Food... sushi wasn't fresh. It was fishy which means the fish was old. And our entrées were salty!! I mean high blood pressure salty. My coconut curry was just pure coconut, water, and food coloring. I don't even know what else to say... that's how bad it was. This is the first time I've written a review while still sitting at the restaurant... I just had to write a review then and there
(1)Addison K.
Food was not good and overpriced for the quality. The chicken was dry, the shrimp was old, and the sushi was warm. I will never be back again!
(1)Sandra B.
(1)Rachel F.
(1)Christine G.
(2)Kelly S.
Food was awful. Service was just as bad. Fortune cookies were probably the best part of the visit. I am sorry I have to give a star for this at all.
(1)Vanessa O.
(2)Tiffani T.
(3)Amanda V.
I couldn't tell you how the food is because when I went there with my fiancé and his family we had reservations for 730... We checked in and they said it would be about 30 min. What's the point of a reservation then? I would understand if it was call ahead seating. However, 9pm and still not sat. We specifically drove to kansas to eat at stix so we were trying to stick it out. 930 now and the hostess had been telling us we were next for 45 minutes... We said peace out and went next door to an awesome pizza joint. Stix hostesses were so rude during the wait and we will NEVER go back.
(1)Gretchen P.
(3)Lesia M.

(2)Carol G.
Yum!
(4)Amy S.
Good service. Sushi is just okay, definitely not the best around. My dad and husband enjoyed the food from the grill. Would probably come back for the grill but not for sushi.
(3)Justin R.
Horribly unorganized stared at empty tables for 25 minutes of an hour and a half wait when I was told 45 avoid this place like the plague
(1)Matt C.
(1)Todd M.
(4)Ty C.
(3)Nicole M.
(3)Neil H.
(1)Erin W.
Not often do you find a hibachi restaurant that also has great sushi. This is the place. Fun for groups or great for a small meal as well. Kids love the show and adults get more food than they can eat.
(4)Gina P.
So far my best experiences here have been with basic dishes that have low expectations.
(3)Chef C.
(1)Andrea T.
(3)Patrick C.
(4)Emily P.
(1)Enrique C.
(4)Kimm T.
(1)Bibs F.
(4)Fallon V.

Go to any other hibachi place in town and they will put Styx to shame and are cheaper for better food entertainment sushi and service.

very very limited gluten free options--like 3 from the whole menu... BUT the manager and cooks were superawesome and created some edible magic for me.
